There is something very special about books that write about women who fight back. Be it fiction, nonfiction, or mythology, it turns into something more extraordinary when it speaks about how they resist the brutality against them. Fightback need not necessarily mean plunging their swords into their rival's heart or indulging in a heated altercation. By resistance, I also mean showing strength in the face of adversity and holding themselves together even when the inevitable happens.

Mythology has never worked for me in the past, considering how Circe fared, but this book has changed my heart and my perspective about the same. This book is based on Medusa and how she got cursed and defeated. Poisedon takes advantage of Medusa in Athene's temple, and upon discovery, Athene curses Medusa and replaces her beautiful curls with writhing snakes. Whoever locks eyes with Medusa will turn into stone, so she stays locked up in her cave to avoid the calamity until Perseus arrives.

Persues, son of Zeus, takes up the challenge of bringing back the head of a gorgon to save his mother from getting married to Polydectes. He is guided by divine forces like Zeus, Athene and Hermes to get to Medusa and the story thereafter is a showcase of Medusa's strength and resilience.

I loved how the book was written from multiple points of view and the author's penmanship. There were times when I felt a few characters could have been cut down because it did not add more to the story, and POVs of the main characters appeared at longer intervals than they should have. Getting to know the story from Medusa's viewpoint and how Poisedon's exploitation and Perseus' not-so-brave feat had been misconstrued against her was a heartwarming tale to read.
