BOOK REVIEW
The world of corporate law has always been a mystery to me. Though we get to see glimpses of their lives in movies and series, there are not many books that represent their world to the fullest. This book intrigued me with its eye-grabbing title and the synopsis.
The book starts off rather clumsily with heavy language and terminologies that are difficult to interpret. But as it moves ahead, the picture becomes clearer in comparison. I loved navigating through the wit and vigilance exhibited by Edamarra Edwin as he worked through a series of cases with his junior associate, Anjali Mathur and others. All the nine stories in the book are based on current social scenarios like demonetisation, stockbroking, tax evasion and so on. The chapters like Passing Through, Taking Hostages and Le Poison D'avril were the ones that stood out for me because of their combination of wit and emotions.
I found the book too hard to comprehend as I had zero knowledge about the law firm and its terminologies, sparring my negligible knowledge of forensic medicine. I would say anyone who is in the same boat as me will find it complex, too. But giving it a try wouldn't hurt as I learned many new terms and facts from this book. Though it's a legal thriller, the line between nonfiction and fiction is blurred in this book, and it helps the reader navigate through both worlds simultaneously. If you are someone from a law background or want to learn more about it, then this book is a must-try. For people otherwise, it might need multiple re-reads and references to understand and follow it.
MY REVIEW: 3/5
