BOOK REVIEW
Time has been racing, and everything’s been a blur around me recently. I was also down with a slump and had picked this new creative, quirky read for a change. And I must say, this book has been helpful to a measurable extent.
The story, as depicted, is a speculative fiction in which animals have taken over the world after humans became extinct due to the coronavirus pandemic. The protagonist, Fox, is a new employee in the ‘We feed ya’ office and is desperate to make an impression. Even animals, like humans, are not immune to corporate politics and are challenged by workplace drama and chaos. Fox is constantly backstabbed, nagged, gaslighted and betrayed. Fox needs to find a way to navigate through corporate life. But it comes with a heavy price.
It’s been a long since I read a lighthearted book with such creativity. The imagination of the author in naming and characterising each animal is commendable. I loved the monologues and the wit, and it’s been breezy in parts, even though I skimmed a few parts because of the repetitiveness. The frustration of an employee and the social structure of a corporate ladder with its pros and cons have been written so well that you forget that they are animal characters, not humans.
However, because I am not used to a corporate working structure, I couldn’t relate to the story in certain parts, but I am sure it will be fun for people who are used to the setup. Yes, the author could have curbed down on explaining every little detail a bit because it made the book look unnecessarily lengthy. But do give it a try for it’s uniqueness and the quirkiness.
MY REVIEW: 3.5/5
