BOOK REVIEW

Tara Tandon is cancelled because of her recent dark fantasy smut book. She writes about werewolves and mythical beasts who romance young women under questionable circumstances that spark outrage. Her life is now a mess, and she needs to write one good book to get it all under control. She comes across a post that mentions a suspected werewolf attack on the beach of Goa, and she is intrigued. She soon moves to Goa to learn more, only to realise there’s more to it than what appears on the surface because the beast is now after her.

Let me be honest: I really couldn’t resist the book with such a stunning cover and an interesting blurb. I also wanted to read something quick and different to break my routine. And it’s safe to say that it did work to some extent because, despite the story, I found myself turning pages till the end to know more, only for good. Not gonna lie, but the book had me in the first half, and I was going to rate it poorly until I read the climax. Kudos to the author for making us believe the book was a mediocre young adult fantasy fiction and then going all backflip and delivering a decent surprise (though a bit weak, I would say). I wasn’t really prepared for it.

This book reads like a billionaire/ supernatural romance but is a strange mix of mystery, horror and feminist fiction that needs patience till the end to understand the whole story. However, I can see my teen self enjoying this book much better than I did now. But for the thirty-something me, it was kind of a guilty pleasure that served as a great palette cleanser.

Then, who should read this book? - The ones who love to read human x werewolves or vampire romance, for semi-smut readers, those who gravitate towards books that bend genres, and for those who enjoy unhinged female protagonists with a touch of fantasy thriller and feminist fiction. A perfect cozy read for the season. Still confused if I should rate the content or the intent of the book. Have to give it to the author just for that. Let me know your thoughts on this if you have read it.
