BOOK REVIEW
This book is a light-hearted take on the world of books and an ambitious reader who wants to shape his world through books and readers. The Begur family is a special case in the town of Mogga. They delve into fiction and fantasy not to escape reality, but to build one of their own. Begur inspires the boy who grows up in his house, Cylinder, to read and write. He takes up books with one mission in mind - if people don’t come to books, the books will go to them. But everything along his path is challenging. He endures the intense heat, unforgiving showers, chaotic traffic and the unyielding people of the town of Mogga. But Cylinders isn’t among those who give up.
I chose this book purely because it was suggested by the Blogchatter book list, and since it was a book about books. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up liking this one. Reading about various books and authors felt very refreshing, and this book itself was like a warm hug to its readers. The ending definitely left me flustered as I didn’t see that coming at all. Every character in the book—the Begurs, Cylinder, the traffic police, and others had a clear character arc and it was beautiful to see their lives laid inside with such sharpness and precision.
You won’t believe it, but this small book serves as a portal to countless books and their authors’ lives. Begur needed so many books to construct his little airport, but in reality, this single book is the airport to its readers. And that is exactly why you shouldn’t miss out on this one. Yes, the author could have softened the strict and steadfast tone a little. But rest assured, it is a great read.
